Heartbreaking: Homeless boy sleeping on pavement when plane carrying 242 people in India crashes, killing him on the spot… 😢
The screams of pain from Kalpesh Patni echoed outside the morgue of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. His younger brother – Akash, 13 – was among the victims of the crash of Air India flight AI171. But Akash was not a passenger on the flight. He had never flown before.
Two weeks ago, Akash’s family was evicted from their home, left homeless and sleeping on the pavement opposite their small tea shop in Meghaninagar – right next to the BJ Medical College hostel where the plane crashed.
On the afternoon of June 12, while Akash was sleeping on the pavement, the plane crashed into nearby buildings. Debris, burning fuel and fire spread rapidly throughout the area, burning everything. The family believes the fire, which reached temperatures of 700°C, took his life. Akash’s mother, Sita, suffered severe burns as she rushed into the fire to save her son. His grandmother, choking back tears, said: “We have just been evicted from our home. Akash was just sleeping on the side of the road… Please, bring him back. I can’t live without him.”
